It does rather clutter things though, especially since every widget can have
an activate function attached to it. Its not too bad for a single line text
fields, but for multi line text, or scrolledLists it looks damn silly (ie,
I've tried it).

Agreed, it should be a shortcut. Unfortunately I haven't finished the menu
package yet, so the existing apps I've done don't work that way. In future
though they will, with the possible exception of type in paths in prompt
type dialogs.
This is what I'm currently thinking:
Left button as in X
Right button over a text entry area does paste
Right button over a widget label does an activate. In this case whenever
the mouse moves over such an activate area it will change form to an icon
of a mouse with the right button highlighted (black as opposed to white)
